Problem: Which absorbs and loses heat faster, land or water?
Objective: To determine, between land and water, which absorbs and loses heat faster
Materials: 2 small jars of the same size, water, soil, 2 thermometers, sunlight
Procedure:
-Fill one jar with water, and the other with soil. Place a thermometer in each jar, and determine their temperature.
-Place the jars together under the sun so that they receive the same amount of heat. Take and record readings from each thermometer every 10 minutes for half an hour.
-Move the jars away from the heat source. Take and record readings from each thermometer every 10 minutes for half an hour.
-Record the observations.
-Compare the ability of land and water to absorb and release heat.
